Description

This Constellation Quilt can be used as a learning tool, a functional art object and a modern heirloom. Like other quilt projects at Haptic Lab, the Constellation Quilt is meant to be passed on from generation to generation. The embroidered gold stars depict the October night sky around the 40th parallel in the Northern Hemisphere and feature constellations like the Big and Little Dipper, Gemini, Orion, Leo, and Taurus; French knots are used to render the Milky Way as a tactile field that crosses the quilt design in a sweeping diagonal. Each quilt is handmade, and uses 100% cotton fabric.

About Haptic Lab

Haptic Lab's mission is to craft products that create meaningful, positive connections between people and planet. They design heirloom products that are responsibly sourced via small artisan vendors and factories. They prioritize long-term relationships with their vendors and seek to have regular ordering cycles that artisans can depend on. They strive to conduct all their business relationships from a perspective of mutual respect and equity. They seek to minimize their environmental impact whenever possible, and work with their partners to reduce the use of plastics and unnecessary waste. They aim to use organic, recycled or low-impact materials in their products and design with the future in mind: every quilt they make should be used for generations. They support local and small businesses in their operational purchases whenever possible, in particular MWBE certified businesses that work in underserved communities such as their own neighborhood, Bedford-Stuyvesant.
